About gneiss things
Carved from the Outer Hebrides
We are a creative couple and our wee boy, living in the wonderful Isle of Harris, with a love for landscape, nature, geology and art.
We work together to select material, produce designs and are both involved in all stages of the production process. We cut, shape, polish, drill, buff, bind and package our products in our small carving workshop at home.
Working together in the production of design, the creation of art, we feel a special connection to these isles by handling it’s natural materials as they move from spoil to treasure.
Our products all stem from a joint love of the land and a joy at the abundance of the natural resources of this incredible place.
The home of Lewisian Gneiss (pronounced “nice”), the Western Isles, inspires us constantly with it’s vast moonscapes and dramatic lines of contrasting rock features.
It’s influence runs throughout our work and our existence.
Our rocks are selected here from areas of existing human disturbance. Keeping our impact small, we treat each rock with the care we feel it deserves by pouring our love into the work we do.
We think of our pieces as a way to keep a part of the islands close to you even when far away, small tributes to the stunning geology of the isles.
We hope you enjoy them as much as we do.
